How will I know when my horse is running?
Your horse is entered in its races in advance.  If your horse gets in, Larry or Kathy
will notify you of the date and time of the race.

How do I choose a horse?
This is the start of the fun part!  You have a few different choices in this regard.
You can decide on a budget, and accompany Larry or Kathy to one of the sales,
pick a horse out, and purchase it.  If you are too busy, you can decide on a budget
and if you have any preferences such as age and send Larry or Kathy to purchase
at the sale for you.  You can also decide you would like to claim a horse that is
already running, though this can be risky.  In addition there is also the option of
purchasing a percentage of a horse that is already on the farm.  This last option is
subject to availability.

What is the best age of horse to purchase?
For a first time owner a horse three or over is probably the best age with which to
start.  They will be old enough to run soon so there is not the long period of
expense before you have the opportunity to recover some of your investment.

Is there a guarantee on the return of my investment?
No.  Like all sports, racing is highly speculative.  There are many factors involved
such as the quality of horse, competition; even weather conditions the day of the
race can play a role in the success of your horse.  You must always keep in mind
that horses are live athletes who, just like human athletes, can suffer injuries and
illnesses.  While there are no guarantees, Larry and Kathy do work very hard to
keep costs reasonable, and to train in such a way that their owners will achieve
success!

How many horses should I buy?
For a first time owner we recommend no more than 1, possibly 2 to start.

Will I be able to ride my horse?
Most likely no.  It is important to remember these horses are fit, fast, and often
feisty athletes while they are in race training.  They are not made to be pleasure
horses during this time in their life and are not for the average rider.  Once their
racing career is over, many Thoroughbreds go on to be wonderful pleasure horses.

What is your billing policy?
Bills are mailed out monthly.  All bills must be paid within 10 days of receipt.  This
is due to the large amount of upfront cost associated with caring for and
maintaining your horse.  There is a $50.00 fee for all returned checks.

Does Antus Racing accept clients outside of the Erie area?
Yes we do.  We generally run our horses in Erie, Cleveland, West Virginia, and
occasionally Harrisburg.  Obviously it would be better for you if you live within a
reasonable distance of one or more of these tracks, but we do not have any limits.

How long is the racing season?
This will vary.  While Antus Racing is committed to getting the most races out of
each year, they are also committed to the safety and well being of the horses in
their care as well as their staff and associates.  We do not run once the winter
weather becomes too severe to safely transport horses to the track and / or it is
cold enough to damage their lungs.  We choose to use this down time to allow the
horses to recuperate both physically and mentally from the racing season.  During
this time they receive frequent turn out and time to be "normal" horses.

Do I get to choose racing silks?
Antus Racing works with a custom silks designer and seamstress.  If you would
like to have your own silks you can find more information on the
"Jockey Silks"
page of our site.  If you do not wish to purchase silks you may use ours.

How involved will I be in the training?
When you work with Antus Racing, you are hiring them for their expertise and
knowledge in this very specialized field.  Due to the specialized nature of the field
Antus Racing handles all of the day to day training and management decisions.  We
use our years of experience and knowledge of trade secrets to maximize the
potential for success for everyone.  Our owners are always welcome and in fact
encouraged to visit their horses in the barn area.  Owner approval is always sought
before acting on any extra non-recurring fees.

Do I need a license?
Yes.  This will give you access to the barn area on race day or to watch your horse
gallop.  We will help you obtain one.

I like to travel and am gone frequently; will this limit my horse's ability to
be entered?
No.  Horses have to meet the conditions of the races in which they are entered.  If
they are ready to run and meet the conditions, they will be entered regardless of
owner availability.  If you are unable to attend in person, it is possible for you to
view the race at most OTBs around the country and sometimes via live feed on the
internet.

Where do I begin?
Call to set up your first initial meeting with Larry and / or Kathy.  They will arrange
a private appointment with you where you can sit down one on one and have all of
your questions answered.  They will be truthful, honest and upfront with you so that
you may make an informed decision about any future purchase.  For an
appointment call them at (814) 725-8159.
